چکیده

With the growth of cloud-based services, cloud data centers are experiencing large growth. A key component in a cloud data center is the network technology deployed. In particular, Ethernet technology, commonly deployed in cloud data centers, is already envisioned for 10 Tbps Ethernet. In this paper, we study and analyze the makespan, workload execution times, and virtual machine migrations as the network speed increases. In particular, we consider homogeneous and heterogeneous data centers, virtual machine scheduling algorithms, and workload scheduling algorithms. Results obtained from our study indicate that the increase in a network’s speed reduces makespan and workloads execution times, while aiding in the increase of the number of virtual machine migrations. We further observed that the number of migrations’ behaviors in relation to the speed of the networks also depends on the employed virtual machines scheduling algorithm. key words: high speed networks, cloud computing, scheduling algorithm, quality of service, VM migration

QoS-Based web service composition based on genetic algorithm

Quality of service (QoS) is an important issue in the design and management of web service composition. QoS in web services consists of various non-functional factors, such as execution cost, execution time, availability, successful execution rate, and security. In recent years, the number of available web services has proliferated, and then offered the same services increasingly. The same web ...

MROrder: Flexible Job Ordering Optimization for Online MapReduce Workloads

MapReduce has become a widely used computing model for largescale data processing in clusters and data centers. A MapReduce workload generally contains multiple jobs. Due to the general execution constraints that map tasks are executed before reduce tasks, different job execution orders in a MapReduce workload can have significantly different performance and system utilization. This paper propo...

Exploiting Eiciency Opportunities Based on Workloads with Electron on Heterogeneous Clusters

Resource Management tools for large-scale clusters and data centers typically schedule resources based on task requirements speci€ed in terms of processor, memory, and disk space. As these systems scale, two non-traditional resources also emerge as limiting factors: power and energy. Maintaining a low power envelope is especially important during Coincidence Peak, a window of time where power m...

A survey of scheduling metrics and an improved ordering policy for list schedulers operating on workloads with dependencies and a wide variation in execution times

This paper considers the dynamic scheduling of parallel, dependent tasks onto a static, distributed computing platform, with the intention of delivering fairness and quality of service (QoS) to users. They key QoS requirement is that responsiveness is maintained for workloads with a wide range of execution times (minutes to months) even under transient periods of overload. A survey of schedule ...

A Clustering Approach to Scientific Workflow Scheduling on the Cloud with Deadline and Cost Constraints

One of the main features of High Throughput Computing systems is the availability of high power processing resources. Cloud Computing systems can offer these features through concepts like Pay-Per-Use and Quality of Service (QoS) over the Internet. Many applications in Cloud computing are represented by workflows. Quality of Service is one of the most important challenges in the context of sche...
